Kimmo Pohjonen has revolutionized accordion sounds and performance with his custom-made electrified and modified instrument.
Since mid-1990s Kimmo has released eight albums, most recent being Uniko (2011) with Samuli Kosminen and Kronos Quartet and Quiver (2008) by the trio KTU, featuring Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn (King Crimson). He extensively written music for dance, movies, and theater, and toured the world with various projects.
In December 2012, Kimmo Pohjonen has received the Order of the Lion of Finland, Pro Finlandia award. This prestigious medal is awarded by the Finnish president annually to Finns who have distinguished themselves in the field of arts and science, and is one of Finland’s highest honours. The award has been granted to outstanding artists since 1945.
